Online Journalism Lvl: Asian

Posted on

Oftentimes, Asians are always featured in posts that can make internet users laugh because of inert skills that are quite extreme for an average situation.

But how do Asians make use of the internet and apply this to online journalism?

A video documented by the  Regional Media Programme Asia of the German Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung last 2010 showed us how South-East Asia in particular moves at par with other continents when it comes to using the internet and developing journalism.

It was good to discover that at least in Singapore, with their whole time spent on the internet, they’d still make good use of it. Having at least more than one phone with internet accessibility features mean Singaporeans will browse the web just to update themselves with important local news and major global issues.

TV Networks have been providing ample air time for news features about news gathered and shared through the internet.

Giving importance to the powers of online journalism, they are able to cope with the use of modern technologies, the internet in developing journalism in their country.

Malaysia, with a bigger population than Singapore’s, estblishes a cautionary behavior when dealing with online journalism. While feeding online users with information in a fast manner, Malaysian online reporters never forget that with a multicultural social environment, a need for sensitivity is needed to successfully deliver online news.

The virtue of traditional journalism is still important and should rather be improved.

The Philippines is a highly populated nation and people are very active online despite the urban-rural mixture of geographical setting in the country. With a few concentrated and conforming stories to share through the web, Filipino online reporters find a need for blogging. Blogging has been essential for thought-provoking and opinion-setting environment essential and worth promoting for online.

Through blogging, new yet interesting stories can be revealed. New and relevant issues can spark the nation’s thoughts. It can also give highlights of how the media can reveal or conceal the news.
